Welcome to my blog!
This is the place where you will find information regarding sound
agronomic practices in corn and soybean production. With the
recent increases in crop prices, we have seen a recent explosion
of miracle products which claim to increase crop yields and/or
decrease input costs. Some of these products do actually work,
but most are designed to do one thing – fatten the pocketbook of
the person or company selling the product. For this reason, my
main focus here will be an emphasis on sound science as it
relates to IPM Standards and Best Management Practices. In
other words, I’ll try to separate fact from fiction.
Occasionally, I’ll delve into other subjects such as the food versus
fuel debate and climate change. These are two subjects that I am
passionate about so I’ll visit these topics on occasion.
About Myself:
My name is Barry Bewley and I am a recently retired agronomist who has
worked 22 years in the retail fertilizer business. Currently I am working as a Precision Ag Sales/Service Specialist for a company called StraightLine Ag Inc. in Harristown, Il. During my years as an agronomist, I mainly worked with corn and soybeans but did work with wheat on occasion. Soil conservation and reduced tillage is important to me. Through my (former) place of employment, we custom strip-tilled approximately 6000 acres per year.

I do wish you had a background in forages in general, and alfalfa specificly.
I will admit, alfalfa is not a crop that I know a whole lot about. Here in Illinois, the heyday for livestock and forage crops was before my time. There’s nowhere near the cattle numbers as there used to be.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
